Front end, under the arch

This store, like most expanded Marina models, is quite wide and not very deep, hence the large number of aisles (18!) for a 45,000 square foot store. That also allows quite a bit of front end space, and this store has 8 regular checkouts (a large number for Safeway these days), and shockingly, it appears that almost all of them were open when I was here! That means there were perhaps more checkers on duty at this store than total employees at work at any given time at my local Safeway! 😃

Wow, it is bizarre to hear that so many checkers were working at the same time at this Safeway! I think that if a Randall's has 4 checkers working at one time, it would be quite a bit. If Kroger has 4+ checkers working at one time, well, that'll never happen in these days, lol. Maybe it'll happen at a Kroger Marketplace store, but those are much bigger than this store. A big HEB might have around 8 checkers, but they need that many just to get through their very packed lines so 8 checkers there isn't like 8 here.

    1. Heck, even 200,000 square foot Fred Meyers often don't have this many regular checkout lanes open! I will say that both Fred Meyer and QFC are much better about staffing their checkouts than Safeway is around here -- they never seem to have the lines to the back of the store that are an all-too-common issue at Safeway.
