I can see my house from here

Not retail related, but I quite enjoy this photo of the view across to Seattle from a viewpoint just a few blocks east of this store, showing the Seattle "skyline" back in the days when the Smith Tower was about the only thing there, and of course all the 30s-era(?) cars in the foreground. I wonder what the context of this was -- it looks like there was a massive crowd gathered to watch military ships in the harbor (and I don't think military ships in Elliott Bay is something that's ever been particularly common), but sadly it doesn't appear the Log House Museum has published its photo collection online. (But I did find this cool comparison shot from a decade or two later!) Oh, and I believe this is roughly the same view today -- all those baby trees in the foreground of the historic photo have certainly grown up over the decades!

And as for the title, in theory you should be able to see my condo building in this picture -- except it most likely hadn't been built quite yet when it was taken!

  1. Finally, a Seattle parking lot photo where I'm sure we won't find any Subarus! I'm not sure exactly when this photo is from, but I would guess the car in the front with the rounded back is a 1940s era car. I'm not sure about the cars behind it, but they might be late 1940s/early 1950s models.

Interesting, so a little later than I had thought!
