I decided to grab a better-quality view of the historic bakery photo while I was over here, one where we can actually read its label, claiming that it is the "Admiral Safeway Bake Shop circa 1962". I say "claiming" because there's also a plaque on the left which is presumably for the exterior photo and which is labeled "Admiral Safeway Store circa 1962", and those pictures are clearly not of the same store, with this one showing a Marina Safeway and the other showing a pre-supermarket location. Also interesting is the plaque for a photo showing a "Political Rally in favor of West Seattle Bridge"... either that photo has gone missing over the years, or I completely missed it on both of my visits to this store. (If it is still there, somewhere, it would have had a rather ironic ring to it during the 2020-2022 closure of the West Seattle Bridge, especially with Admiral being one of the worst-affected neighborhoods!)
Huh, interesting that these photos have questionable authenticity! Did you see the grand opening image gallery from this store in 2011? There is some neat stuff here. ReplyDeleteYeah, I had seen that! I miss that era of Safeway... that was the time that they were really trying to be upscale, compared to the endless cost-cutting in the years since the Albertsons merger.
