Some of the clothing decor looks pretty much the same between Northwest and the preceding Script decors, but the children's section is another place where it's quite clear that this is not a Northwest clothing department. This decor must have already looked quite dated -- even more so than the ShoeS sign -- in 2008 when it was installed, let alone these days, 15 years later! The extremely understated Dip poster, in particular, is a huge contrast.
Ha, yeah, this Children's department decor looks so generic that it looks like it could fit in in almost any decade! That said, it does have a Mervyn's early 1990s type vibe to it! Well, that and it looks like it was derived from a Sega Dreamcast marketing plan, lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm not too sure about Kroger's merchandising here. I see Chevrolet and Ford shirts on the racks, but the parking lot photo you also posted shows no Chevrolet or Ford products in the parking lot. I think Subaru, Volvo, and Toyota shirts would be much more logical for Fred Meyer to sell than Ford and Chevrolet! Then again, have you ever seen a child desire to have a Volvo? I'm sure there is someone, lol.
You're definitely right about it having a 90s look! I'm not sure how old this decor element actually is -- I don't think it was around in the Cartoon era, but I could be wrong.
DeleteI have a lot of questions about Kroger/Fred Meyer's clothes merchandising, but that isn't one that I would have thought of! 😃 Chevy and Ford may not be the most popular cars around here, but they certainly aren't rare either.
