I quite like Lifestyle v2.1's burgundy bakery, especially in a store like this where the bakery has quite a bit of wall space to go around -- though I'm sure it made this part of the store feel quite dark with its original Lifestyle lighting! (At least, I think they were still using dim lighting circa 2010, though it wouldn't last long beyond that.)

  1. I've always found Safeway Lifestyle v2 to be a pretty classy looking decor package in general especially in a store like this one with a proper floor and drop ceiling. Things like the burgundy service departments give Lifestyle v2 a little more visual flair than, say, Kroger's Script decor package that was also pretty classy, but also a bit boring. Of course, in stores with lighting issues, Lifestyle v2 (or any decor package I suppose) looked a bit like a dungeon. Fortunately, that hasn't been an issue at my local Randall's, but I've seen it before at other locations.

It'll be a bit sad when regular Lifestyle v2 fades away. At least here in Houston, Lifestyle v2 is still around at quite a few stores and even when it is replaced, it is usually with Colorful Lifestyle v2. In Portland, Lifestyle v3 seems like the common replacement, which is perfectly fine with me, but Safeway Modern seems like a bit of a mediocre replacement to me especially with how it is implemented in many cases. Granted, I think your opinions about Modern and Lifestyle v3 are a bit different, lol.

    1. I've always thought of Script as being quite similar to Proto-Lifestyle, even if they are from slightly different eras. Of course, Lifestyle v1 was quite a bit more bland than either v2 or Script! I honestly never really minded the dim lighting of Lifestyle v1 or v2, but I know that's not the case for most people.

Yeah, I'd definitely prefer Modern to Lifestyle v3 as a Lifestyle v2 replacement! When implemented well, Modern can be quite classy. Unfortunately, my local Safeway division has been making their remodels cheaper and cheaper as time has gone on, and as we saw at the Lacey store, the results can at times be quite poor. Still, I'm just not a fan of Lifestyle v3 regardless!
