The liquor department isn't just fancier than normal for Safeway; it's also significantly larger than pretty much any other I've seen around here, since it includes both the alcove and a bunch of shelving out front! I wonder if it was originally intended to be just the alcove and the shelving out front was added when they started selling hard liquor, though the fancy lighting and shelving makes me think it was always this way.
