Welcome back to the Lacey (Lake Lois) Safeway!

I first featured this store over five years ago, when it represented the last stand for one of my all-time favorite Safeway decor packages. As you can probably already guess from the changes on the exterior here, that's sadly no longer the case. However, this is such an interesting store that I wanted to revisit it anyway -- and even post-remodel, there are still quite a few oddities to be found inside!

  1. Whoa, a Mazda MX-6! I have not seen one of those in a long, long time. I have not seen the MX-6's more popular sister car, the Ford Probe, in a long time either. Those cars were known to have weak automatic transmissions so the red one there must have a manual transmission! This Safeway might be Modern and not retro (though what happens when Modern becomes retro?), but at least the Mazda MX-6 is bringing some retro flair to this Safeway. It's also bringing a little bit of color to an otherwise very boring scene! Oh, and look, no Subarus!

I kind of prefer the historical reference to 'Food & Drug" over just having a pharmacy sign, but I suppose it is a given these days that Safeway sells food! Then again, some of the Krogers around here with relatively new signage now say "Food & Beverage". You'd think both of those are a given! Link: https://goo.gl/maps/YMj6ScDPeAxXwrUJA

    1. Wow, I never would have guessed that was a rare car! I certainly see Ford Probes around here somewhat regularly too.

Something about "Food & Drug" sounds a little old-fashioned and pointless to me these days, but "Food & Beverage" is even worse! There are certainly Safeways (and Krogers) without a pharmacy or much of a health and beauty section, but there are absolutely none that lack food or beverages!
