The biggest operational change made with the Monorail upgrade was the introduction of faregates (making it the only land transportation mode in the region to have those) and self-service ticket machines, whereas previously they just had a staffed ticket booth, and at non-busy times you would sometimes just pay on board the train. Sadly, the designers didn't think the placement of these through all that well, since whether you arrive through the mall or from the direct elevator from the street and light rail station, you have to walk past the entrance to get to the ticket machines and then double back, and every time I take the Monorail from here, most people who need to buy tickets instead walk up to the security person sitting next to the faregates and need to be redirected over here.
