The residential address numbers are an interesting choice

I'm really unsure exactly how much of what we're seeing here is original versus modified over the years, but this is certainly quite a strange Marina store! In addition to the flatter arch, the square concrete block and full-width sign band are rather unusual choices. And despite the low arch, I feel like the flat-roof sections on each end are a bit higher than normal, but maybe that's just an optical illusion. By the way, the Safeway/Albertsons/Carrs-branded sign on the right is one that's recently shown up at every Washington Safeway, and it's there to tell people that they can't assault or harass store employees -- it's rather sad (and/or scary) that this is apparently something that needs to be put in writing.

  1. Odd, I have not seen such signs at Randall's stores around here, but maybe it is there and I just have not seen it. Maybe it is a good thing if Randall's does not think that they need them here, but that might be an optimistic take on things.

I'm not sure what Safeway is doing in your region, but right now this week Randall's is running a lot of excellent digital coupon deals in Houston. They have bananas for 29 cents/lb., Lucerne milk for $1.49/gal. (I wonder who is going to buy Value Corner given the prices!), and they have some other deals as well.

  2. Yeah, the Safeway/Albertsons/Carrs triple-branding seems to be a mark of something that the Seattle division came up with, so I imagine this isn't something that the rest of the country is doing.

Wow -- Safeway certainly hasn't done any sales as good as that anytime recently! Strangely, I've noticed that several sales that historically would have been For U-only (or sometimes paper coupons) are showing up as typical sales instead. Very interesting that they're putting Lucerne gallons on sale -- around here, Safeway only ever does sales on Value Corner gallons or Lucerne half-gallons.
