This alcove would typically have been used for the packaged deli/lunchmeats department, but Campeón is using it for dairy instead -- and strangely, the Haggen-installed murals appear to be for the dairy department too, though I doubt Haggen would have actually used this section as such. (I'm pretty sure these weren't previously installed in the actual dairy department, for reasons we'll see later.) Being right across the actionway from the liquor aisle, Campeón has put a ton of beer promotional signage here, which looks quite strange in the dairy department!
It's strange not to see dairy in the far corner at a Grocery Palace store! Certainly the Grocery Palace Krogertsons kept the old Albertsons dairy location even if the barn decor is long gone. In some ways, this alcove gives dairy more room than the corner does though so I think it does make sense if a supermarket doesn't need a large lunch meat area.
ReplyDeleteBeer marketing materials seem to end up in all kinds of strange spots in supermarkets these days. I saw photos of an Albertsons store somewhere a couple of months back that has a neon Miller Lite sign in the produce department!
Yep, but hold that thought for a little bit!
DeleteInteresting! It's extremely uncommon to see beer signs like that in mainstream grocery stores (Safeway/Albertsons, QFC/Fred Meyer) around here.
