Weird spot for a garage door

Between the random open ceiling and the very poorly covered-over garage door, I have to wonder if this area was formerly back room space. Speaking of which, this store appears to have extremely little back room space these days -- there's a small area within the bump-in in this picture (which seems to be primarily home to Fred Meyer Pickup), and there's some (though I'm not sure how much) space on the far left end of the grocery section (which is where the loading docks are), but that seems to be it. Fred Meyers often run with rather minimal back room space (oftentimes with a significant amount of back stock kept above the shelves on the salesfloor, though it doesn't seem like they were doing much of that here), but this still seems exceptionally minimal. Oh, and I'd be remiss to fail to point out the extremely patchy floor here, including three seemingly randomly placed black tiles.

  1. Yes, this certainly could be an old stockroom or maybe a more outdoorsy looking garden center. It's kind of strange seeing the open ceiling like that, but I guess it's appropriate for a garden center.

Speaking of stock rooms, there was an announcement that Kroger in Dallas will be running a restaurant supply business. I suppose this is a bit of a natural evolution of online sales and all of that. I do wonder if this is being done in response to Gordon Food Service, a restaurant supply business that runs combo grocery stores for the general public/restaurant supply stores, opening stores here in Texas. They seem to have five stores planned for Houston at least. Who knows, if this works out, maybe Fred Meyer/QFC will be supplying restaurants in your area! 1. That's quite an odd concept! It kind of feels like Kroger is grasping for ideas at this point...
