This building looks like a bit of a hodgepodge on the outside as well as the inside from this angle! The full gabled roof of the original (grocery) section probably looked fine originally, but when they built the new, shed-roofed portion, they just tacked it on the side. The most interesting thing here, though, is the "Bakery - Deli Foods" sign on the left -- I've never seen anything like that at any other Fred Meyer. I wonder how common signs like this once were. It's weird how it just says "Foods" -- I suspect there was once another Fred Meyer sign next to it, which was replaced with the "Bakery - Deli" sign at some point.
The giant shed look continues outside! That 'F O O D S' sign is pretty wild and signs of that style are certainly a relic from a different period. Yikes, it's hard to believe Kroger has kept that around for so long, but it's neat that they have.
ReplyDeleteYou and Retail Retell might like this, but check out the strange places that old (well, not so old) Kroger decor ends up at! In this case, it's Bountiful decor in a 1970s ex-7-Eleven! Yes, you read that right! Link: https://goo.gl/maps/9Ci1Qww5t14dGv8U7
Yep, not the upscale look I'm used to from Fred Meyer!
DeleteWow, and I thought QFCs looked cramped with Bountiful signage! Yikes. That decor is way too big for that store...
Very cool to see the retro signs!
ReplyDeleteThat 7-Eleven link is interesting also. Surely that must be from another Kroger owned convenience store, right? I don't have enough brainpower right now to figure out if they would've been able to cobble together "thirsty" from all the other signs in a regular Kroger...
That's what I was wondering too! Convenience stores with full Bountiful decor must have looked interesting...
