Mix and match

Those last two photos looked like completely standard Lifestyle v2, while this one makes this look like a typical Lifestyle v1 store! The mismatch is quite odd to see, especially as v2 still looks fairly modern while (as Anonymous from Houston pointed out when we were discussing some stores in his area) these elements from v1 seem quite outdated -- especially the category markers, which use the same overall design that Safeway had been using at least since the 80s. Also, notice anything weird about one of those category markers?

  1. I'm not sure if I would have noticed the weird thing if it wasn't for the following photo! I suppose the category marker has a hidden message!

Lifestyle v1 elements really look strange at a Colorful Lifestyle v2 (well, 1.9) store like the Memorial & Dairy Ashford Randall's. You're right, they do look dated and my initial reaction when seeing that in person was that maybe it was from proto-Lifestyle or something. Oh well, I guess it does still work.

    1. I still find it surprising that Colorful Lifestyle remodels don't include new Lifestyle v3-style aisle and category markers, but neither of the two I visited got them. At least around here, it seems like Safeway should have tons of those in storage from stores that had gotten the mid-2010s refresh and have recently been remodeled to Modern!
