It's hard to say for sure, but I believe this bit of strip mall on the east side of the main building may have actually been carved out of the old mall building, rather than being tacked on during the redevelopment. But I may be wrong with that. And yes, this shopping center does have a standalone Starbucks, even though it also has one in the QFC, one in the Target, and formerly a semi-affiliated Barnes & Noble Cafe. That's just Seattle for you! 😉
Oh, no, that Starbucks thing isn't just a Seattle thing unless you're calling it a Seattle thing because it's a Starbucks thing! The famous Houston Starbucks across from the Starbucks in Lewis Black's famous comedy actually has (had) more Starbucks to it than Lewis Black even noticed. I say had because one of the Starbucks across from the Starbucks closed in 2020. Even today, the remaining Starbucks has a Barnes & Noble in it with Starbucks Coffee and the shopping center has a Kroger (with an Art Deco exterior if you've never seen it) with Starbucks in it. That's four Starbucks in one shopping center! Now it's down to just three.
ReplyDeleteHere's a visual of things (Kroger is a bit down W. Gray St. at the end of the shopping center): https://goo.gl/maps/AX8QioAz3Rj3radK6

Whoops, I meant to say that the remaining Starbucks has a Barnes & Noble next to it.
DeleteYeah, I know it's not just Seattle... I just like to poke fun at Seattle's coffee people! It does seem like Starbucks has been closing quite a few of these duplicative locations lately, though they don't seem to consider standalone ones to duplicate in-store locations since there are still quite a few standalone Starbucks right next to in-store ones.
