Boring front

Despite the one lonely wreath, there's no denying that the front facade of Westlake Center is extremely bland these days, which is sad because this wasn't always the case. There was once a large public terrace on the third floor (which is still technically there but no longer seems to be accessible now that Saks has taken over the entire front end), a big glassed-in atrium that extended to the front of the building (which is also still there, but they removed the portion that's visible from the street for some reason), and some very 90s-looking decorations. The mall was clearly designed to feel like part of the public space that it borders, whereas the remodel turned its back on that and made it overtly inward-facing -- something that feels all too much like a reflection of society these days. (I recently read an interesting article about that, but sadly, I have no idea where or what I should search to be able to find it.)
