Bed, Bath, & Bemattress

Here's a closer view of the Bed Bath & Beyond, which is part of one of the original Westwood Village buildings (though I'm sure it's been remodeled extensively, so I'm not sure what it originally would have looked like), along with the other major tenant of the central retail strip, the ubiquitous MattressFirm. (I don't know if it's like this elsewhere, but it's insane how many stores MattressFirm has around here!)

  1. The Mattress Firm is one of Houston's great contributions to the retail world, lol. Yeah, they're based out of here. Hey, you have Amazon and Costco, we have Mattress Firm and The Men's Wearhouse, lol.

The Mattress Firm had locations all over the place here. Some intersections here had no less than three locations at them! Since their bankruptcy in 2018, they have cut back on locations so things aren't quite as bad as they used to be, but one does not have to look too hard to find a location around here at least.

Bed, Bath, & Beyond has also been cutting back on locations around here. One of the two local stores closed in late 2019 I think it was. The other local store moved some years back so they could consolidate with their sister stores Cost Plus World Market and Buy, Buy, Baby. I hear it is the latter which might be doing the best business out of the bunch, but I don't know.

    1. Ha! Seattle is also responsible for Starbucks, which fits into the same mental bucket of "chains with way too many locations" in my mind. 😃

I don't think I've ever seen three Mattress Firms in the same location, but there are several spots where there are two at the same intersection or shopping center!

I don't believe Mattress Firm has closed very many locations around here, despite the crazy amount of locations they have (but perhaps they had an even higher density of locations elsewhere!). Bed Bath & Beyond, on the other hand, certainly has, and I honestly thought this one had closed down too, but not yet at least.
