The back right corner of this store is home to the dedicated juice department, something that certain Safeways have seemingly at random. (It's possible that this is just a Lifestyle v2 thing -- I've never seen this at a v1 store, and neither v3 nor Modern seem to have signs for the juice department, though they leave the departments in place during most remodels.) Having the juice section over with produce rather than with dairy seems to make sense, but it seems like having it in dairy is pretty much universal across different chains.
Whoa, that's a very strange location for juice having it over by produce. At the local Lifestyle v2 Randall's, juice is on the opposite side of the store from produce. The juice is actually on the far end of the dairy case over by the pharmacy. It's actually quite far from the milk. This is a design aspect favored by Randall's prior to Safeway buying them out. That said, the original Houston Safeways from the 1980s and before were designed somewhat similarly as far as I can remember.
ReplyDeleteMany Kroger stores from the 1990s-early 2000s do have milk and orange juice not far from the produce department though. In that case, obviously, the juice and dairy are in the same area though unlike this Safeway.
Yeah, it's definitely a bit weird, especially since most local Safeways hardly have a juice section at all -- just one or two doors of the milk case!
