As I implied, the layout of this store is utterly bizarre, so it's probably a good idea to look at the floor plan before we move on any further. For reference, the entry lobby that the previous pictures were taken from is the top left corner of this drawing. And if you haven't noticed yet, the checkouts are in the middle of the store! (To be specific, they're sandwiched between the produce/floral department and the rest of the store.) Considering that the Uptown/Lower Queen Anne Safeway has a similarly bizarre layout with the large floral department between the checkouts and the entrance (though the way the departments are set up relative to the checkouts is totally different), I can only conclude that there's something about this neighborhood that makes store designers lose their minds! (This is my neighborhood now... uh oh. 😉)
