Self checkouts

I'm not going to talk too much about this to avoid spoiling later parts of the series, but here's the grocery-side self checkout pod, along with its accompanying long line (though it was shorter at this point than the other times I saw it on this visit).

Hopefully everyone's having better luck this week than I have been, haha! On Saturday, my good (electric) bike broke down, so I can't ride that, then on Sunday I took my spare (standard) bike out and fell on it, then today I took it out again and fell again, and between those two crashes, it's no longer in working order either. Plus I'm scared to ride it now, since I've fallen off of it several times over the year I've had it (and injured myself worse each time), versus never on my good bike. I probably shouldn't whine so much on this blog, but this has just not been my week.

  1. That's too bad about the bikes. Hopefully you can get the bike you like fixed. On the bright side, this weekend is a long weekend so at least there is that to look forward to!

Regarding the Wal-Mart app, if I wanted to use an app, I'd probably just shop online! I will say that I like that Home Depot's website does list what aisle and bay something is in at a specific store if you search for it online and tell it what store you want to find the item at. Maybe some other retailers do the same thing, but it's nice that it's on the regular website without having to use an app or anything.

I was looking at the new Randall's ad for this week and I noticed they have a new slogan that I have not seen before. Seeing that slogan gave me a brief scare that Randall's might be switching over to Kroger Fresh & Local decor! I'm sure that's not the case, but I suppose Fresh & Local might be associated with Randall's now instead of Kroger. I guess that was always an unofficial name for that Kroger decor anyway. I don't know if any other Albertsons/Safeway stores are using that same new slogan, but you can see it in the ad here: https://circulars-prod.cpnscdn.com/pdf-cache/Randalls/21_35_SOU_WC_RT/stores/01066.pdf

Regarding the earlier discussion about WordPress, I suppose Mike is the person to talk to if you're interested in setting up WordPress on a server...your own or a shared server. Maybe he has some tips or advice on the matter, I'm not sure. Fortunately, it seems Blogger is behaving itself today if nothing else!

    1. Yeah, I sure hope so. It's the time of the year when it's hard to get a new/used bike again, unfortunately! And yeah, I could sure use that extra weekend day, even if I can't go for a bike ride.

I'm the same way -- though I'd much rather shop online than with an app! I got rather frustrated with Target, since their "drive up" outdoor pickup service requires you to buy things through the app. I'd much rather use my computer with a large screen than rely on the tiny screen of my phone!

Seems like lots of stores are using some sort of variation on "Fresh"/"Local" in their slogan these days! I guess Kroger was just a bit ahead of the curve. 🙂

Glad Blogger is working for you again. It's still not sending me comment notifications on a consistent basis, though. It's always something with this site...

  2. Yikes, sorry to hear about that! Hope you're able to get your nice electric bike repaired. And yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to the long weekend, too 😄

The Walmart app actually isn't that bad to use! If an item is in the store it will generally tell you what aisle it's located on and/or show you a map of the area it's supposed to be in. The only issue is that stock is so hard to keep track of (I'm assuming) that the item count isn't always accurate (no surprise there).

    1. Interesting to hear that about the app! I've only ever used it for in-store pickup, but it's good to know that it works reasonably well for navigation too. And yeah, I've had a lot of trouble over the years with Walmart's website/app saying that they have things in stock, only to make the long trek out to Walmart to find that they're all out of what I was looking for... I guess their inventory management is far from perfect.

    2. I'm just not a fan of apps. I think at times in the past, I did have the Randall's/Safeway and Kroger apps, but that's it and I no longer have those two even. If I can't do something via the main website, I just won't do it. I also prefer doing my business on a PC rather than on the phone.

Believe it or not, I have not purchased an item from a B&M store's in-store inventory since I did it at Circuit City in 2008! I have picked up some online orders from Sears at a Sears store in more recent times, but I didn't need an app for that.
