I'm sure there are some jokes hiding in this aisle marker! Anyways, speaking of the aisle markers, there's something unusual beyond just the fact that the long aisles in the front of this store have what should really be the contents of multiple aisles -- almost all of them have a full set of seven category plaques! Normally, these have no more than 6, with the seventh slot originally intended to hold a local street name or landmark, but around here more commonly left blank.
Behind that is something more obviously weird -- the left-side (or front?) wall of the store is all brick! And it's real brick (well, veneer, probably) too, not the cheap wallpaper-y stuff I'm used to seeing -- which is probably why it's stuck around so long. As far as I know, brick wasn't ever a part of any Safeway decor, and it certainly wasn't a part of any of the three decor packages this store has had over they years, so it must be something special to this store from when it was built. At first, I thought it might just be something from the exterior wall showing through to the inside, but the wall on the bumpout on the left side of this picture is actually an interior wall, separating the store from an emergency exit stairway.
That aisle marker reminds me of the introduction of the old computer game Sam & Max Hit The Road! It's right at the 10:00 mark in this video: https://youtu.be/C7qBJak98cs
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see some real brick after that Artisan disaster we were just looking at!
Ha, guns are one thing that I doubt Safeway has sold over the years! 😃
