Meats, with a plant accent

The butcher block is probably my favorite department pre-remodel, incorporating the large leaf graphic and curved, uplit soffit but adding really nice glass and stone wall tile. I would love to have a bathroom with tile like that! 🙂

  1. On the topic of butcher blocks and being on a butcher block, Je of the Louisiana & Texas Retail Blog just informed me of rumors that Fry's Electronics is closing all their stores. I'm not sure if there will be a liquidation sale or not. I did some searching and there are media reports confirming the rumors.

This news is hardly a surprise as we've discussed before, but I thought I'd let you know since I know you have a pending series on Fry's.

    1. Yeah, I saw that. I don't think anyone's surprised! If I'm understanding the news correctly, they're just closing without a clearance sale, which is too bad -- I would have liked to visit during an actual closing sale to compare it to their "normal" operations (which felt much like a closing sale already!).

    2. Lol, yeah, I made a comment on Je's blog that Fry's has essentially been having a liquidation sale for about the last two years! I last visited a Fry's about a month ago and they had already moved half the store into the other half and roped off the emptied part. When retailers start downsizing like that, it's never a good sign. The shuffling of inventory and closing off of parts of the store were reminiscent of liquidation sales as well.

Supposedly Fry's had been having problems getting inventory into the stores the traditional way so they were using a consignment model. Thus, a lot of the inventory in their stores in recent times probably wasn't really their own inventory so a liquidation sale wouldn't have been possible. As Je mentioned, maybe they will open the stores up eventually for some kind of fixtures sale. The rest of the inventory that's really theirs might, as Je said, end up at Ollie's or some other kind of closeouts store.

    3. Ha, perhaps that's better than just leaving vast empty spaces like I saw a few years back! We'll see if they have some sort of fixture sale or auction, though there's not a super great chance I'd be able to visit since they tend to have limited hours and I'm pretty busy right now.
