Asparagus bundle

Today's pictures seem rather repetitive and out of sync, even to me... the ordering made sense when I was putting this set together, but not so much when split up into separate days. And I didn't notice until now, and I really don't feel like rewriting all of the descriptions, so... yeah. Anyway, here's yet another look up towards the front of produce, showing the department's pictograph sign -- a bundle of asparagus.

  1. That's a nice chalkboard sign for bananas. The price is right as well! That's about what Kroger charges for bananas in Houston, but as we've discussed before, a lot of grocers (Kroger and otherwise) elsewhere in the country charge more!

I don't know how many chalkboard signs this store has, but I've long wondered about supermarkets who use a lot of chalkboard signs (they're usually in produce departments). Do they have some employee at the store whose job it is to design and update those chalkboards each week? And how to they make the artwork and chalk writing so consistent across stores? Do they have chalk stencils?

I suppose that type of artwork consistency amazes me. Of course, I couldn't even cut or color inside lines properly at school so any kind of art skill like that is amazing to me, lol.

    1. Hm, yeah, I really don't know. Chalkboards aren't something I'm used to seeing at QFC, anyway! This one kind of looks like it's fake, though -- it's just in the same sort of holder they'd use for paper signs.

    2. Good point, that sign does look fake now that you mention it. I suppose that explains the consistency, doesn't it? Lol!

I think I've seen fake chalk signs at Kroger before now that I think about it. I usually associate fake chalk signs with Sprouts, but it seems that faux chalk is more common than I thought. Here is some fake chalk at Sprouts: https://goo.gl/maps/Ljuzmsms9JoQNmAE8

It's kind of funny that a store famous for natural foods uses fake chalk!

Anyway, there was a time when supermarkets did have real chalkboards. Well, or at least much more convincing fake ones, I suppose I can't say for sure, lol. If you don't believe me, watch the first 30 seconds of this Randall's video from 1992 and you'll see what I'm talking about: https://youtu.be/h-eLf2uurLU

    3. Yeah, I've certainly seen real (or at least better) chalkboards at grocery stores too! I can't think of the last time I've seen one in a mainstream grocery store, though. But places like Trader Joe's use them all the time!
