Safeway's decision to move the entrance really left this store looking weird, with the actual entrances tucked out of sight around the corner from the fake entrance, and it's even weirder that they decided to replace the doors with covered-up windows rather than just walling them over. This space is now home to the store's customer service counter, which is why they're completely covered over rather than being open to the salesfloor (that, and because Safeway was rather uninterested in windows at this point in time). I really don't get why they made this change -- Safeways typically have two doors, but having one door isn't that uncommon and the new right-hand door isn't even all that far from this one -- but I suspect it may have to do with the customer service department, since Fred Meyers of this era typically had a customer service kiosk rather than a counter along the front end like Safeway typically uses.
This is really strange. If they were going to move the entrance, they could've at least made it look less obvious.
ReplyDeleteIt really is! It seems like they wanted this to be a fairly cheap transition, but then again, I have no idea why they bothered replacing the entrances in the first place.
