This is a what-way aisle?

Have you noticed anything odd about the social distancing signage in this store? While the floor markings certainly seem well thought out, the hanging signs are... not so much. Instead of pointing in the direction of intended travel, they point perpendicular to the aisles! While this would work quite nicely with the "parallel" style of aisle markers used by Safeway and Walmart (for example), I can't think of any QFC decor pacakge that used this style, with them instead using "perpendicular" aisle markers (up to the Seattle decor) or tri-siders (starting with 2012). Surely an up arrow would have been a better choice...

On a side note, I find it rather interesting how, while QFC has gone all in with one-way aisles, Fred Meyer (the other local Kroger) hasn't used them at all! It's especially odd considering that many Fred Meyers (except for some of the ones that have received recent Marketplace remodels) have rather narrow aisles, that seem like they would work well with a one-way treatment in normal times, rather than the giant aisles seen here and in most QFCs.

  1. It seems Kroger isn't putting one way aisles in all stores... my aunt says hers has, but none of the ones I've been in have.

    1. Interesting that they're being inconsistent -- around here, Safeway and QFC are consistently yes (though the signs have all disappeared in Pinehurst during the remodel), and Fred Meyer and Target consistently no (and those are the only stores I've visited recently enough to tell).
