The former
jewelry department was stripped out in the remodel, replaced with the book section and an alcove for random merchandise. It's sad to see the jewelry go, as this store appears to have been one of the first to get a Fred Meyer Jewelers based on some old newspaper clippings I found, but it's not surprising since this is a rather small and not particularly high-end store for Fred Meyer.
An article was just linked in the chat room yesterday that said Kroger is closing something like 70 of these jewelry stores, with the ultimate goal to be all of them. I wasn't able to read it, but that's sad news.
ReplyDeleteThat's definitely sad, especially since many of them have been upgraded recently during Fred Meyer's remodel wave! This is actually the only one I know of that's closed recently. I suppose it isn't too surprising, though, with this recession that we're swiftly plunging into...
