But first, let's briefly look at the Safeway store, located on an outparcel of the mall. This store appears to have been built around the same time as the main part of the mall, and was originally a Top Food & Drug (a local chain that Haggen ran as their lower-end stores, but which they eventually ran into the ground in the 2000s, resulting in all of its stores closing. Probably should have been a lesson for the Albertsons deal, but that's a topic for another time...). This store is pretty much unrecognizable as anything other than a Safeway these days, sadly.
