Stepping inside

No, the interior is clearly the star of the show here! Someone at Fred Meyer clearly realized the significance of this store, and decided to design a completely custom decor package rather than using whatever their standard was at the time (probably still the Oval decor). The result was this absolutely amazing decor package, clearly taking mid-century influences, but in a lighthearted way, almost poking fun at 50s stereotypes. While this decor clearly wouldn't work everywhere, and I probably wouldn't even like it as a standard decor package, it's still one of my all-time/all-brand favorites! I'd be lying if I said this store wasn't a very large influence on my decision to go to Portland this summer 🙂
