Meanwhile, Fred Meyer left some major traces behind when they left, most oddly the backing of their distinctive Fred Meyer Marketplace signs. The originals were a very odd design, with neon and internally-illuminated lettering sitting on top of what appears to be a standard illuminated sign. Still not sure what the original concept was, but it's certainly 90s overload! Anyways, when they moved out, Fred Meyer carefully removed all the lettering, leaving the diamond background behind. Seems like more work than just removing the whole thing, but whatever...
