As with many of these older Safeways, this one has a companion Rite Aid right next door. This store was, like Safeway, an original anchor tenant, though its name has changed a few times -- like most local Rite Aids, it was originally a Pay 'n Save and later a Payless Drug (two companies with very complicated histories that I don't feel like going into right now) before being rebranded as a Rite Aid in the late 90s. I suspect the facade here is original to the store (and likely similar to the original Safeway facade); the signage is presumably original to the Rite Aid conversion and is pretty much the standard style used in their converted stores.
