With the grocery section out of the way, we can fully move on to the general merchandise side of the store. I guess it makes sense to put reading glasses next to the book department, but that seems like a heck of a lot of glasses for a store like this! I wonder if that means this area skews older... or if Kroger was already struggling to fill up space in this store back in 2019.

Ha, well, in fairness, I think most (all?) of those are sunglasses and not reading glasses. Maybe this is a sunny area! If not, then maybe Kroger is a bit optimistic with the selection of sunglasses here, lol.
ReplyDeleteThe Kroger stores around here do have Foster Grant sunglasses displays like this, but certainly not as many as this store has. I do see people shopping for sunglasses at Kroger, and it is more odd for people to do that here as our Krogers are mostly just supermarkets rather than hypermarket type things like Fred Meyer.
I recently came across some photos from a soon-to-close Houston metro area Food Town store and they have a display upfront for a brand of reading glasses called 'Reading Glasses for Dummies,' modeled after the 'Dummies' computer books. I can't imagine why anyone would want to buy reading glasses named that, but then again, I suppose plenty of people buy 'Dummies' books!
Huh, that does make sense. I guess I'm not used to stores around here having lots of sunglasses!
DeleteThat's pretty funny! Looks like they're even officially licensed by the book publisher. Also, apparently this is how I learn that the Dummies book covers have lost all character and now look like any other reference book. That's sad.
