I've always liked Safeway's Lifestyle-era "halo-lit" signs -- they're a lot classier than standard internally-lit signage. Despite this picture being from my original iPod camera, it does a pretty good job of showing off the signage here! Sadly, Safeway switched to standard signage sometime after the Albertsons merger, with newer stores typically using a white wordmark (which always looks a bit weird to me!).
