Clearly, the contents of the back case have moved around over the decades, since dairy products are under the deli sign while juice and refrigerated alcohol is under the dairy sign. I wonder if this store even sold alcohol back in the 80s -- I have no idea what California's liquor laws were like back then, but it seems grocery store liquor sales only became common somewhat later.
Also, "dairy foods" is a strange phrase! I don't think I've seen that elsewhere. Notice that the S in "foods" is mounted on the vent grate, though most of it is on the actual wall -- enough of it that it has managed to stay put, apparently!
