Back up front, this store had quite a large seasonal setup when I was there, from grills to... whatever that thing on the endcap is. Up front, above the Seahawks store, the 80s raised ceiling looks so out of place here in what otherwise looks like a 90s Blue & Grey Market-built store. This must have been about the only thing Albertsons didn't touch in that remodel.

Yeah, that kind of front end with the security catwalk/upstairs offices leads me to believe this probably wasn't originally a Blue & Grey Market store, but perhaps someone like AFB with some Albertsons expertise can tell for sure!
ReplyDeleteThis store looks to be an amalgamation of remodels and expansions over the years. It appears this store had a big expansion in the 1980's where it was retrofitted to the "superstore" format with the catwalk and becoming the current size. Then it appears Albertsons redid this store again in the 1990's and reconfigured it to the Blue and Gray Market layout, but within the walls of the reconfigured superstore. There was one Florida store (#4370 in Daytona Beach, a 1980's superstore newbuild) that appears to have received the same remodel this store did in the 90's, as that store received the 1990's facade built out over the old right side entrance. I imagine there were a few 1980's format stores throughout the country that received more extensive reconfigurations like this, but once Albertsons realized how expensive they were, they opted to just do decor swaps following those initial few. That's what I think happened here, based on the presence of the catwalk and the cosmetics alcove turned into a home for meats.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this store has certainly been through a lot over the years! It's originally from the 60s, though I suspect it has been pretty much completely rebuilt and I'm not sure how much, if any, of the original building still exists. Snohomish County claims it was built in 1993, but I'm pretty sure at least part of the current building is older than that (that's probably the year of the Blue & Grey Market remodel and facade redesign).
