Back in the day, I'm guessing the whole space under the raised ceiling was used for checkouts, but nearly half of the space is now used for the floral department. I'm always amazed by how many checkouts stores used to have; these days, even this store's downsized setup of 6 regular checkouts is more than most normal grocery stores have! I'm guessing the Starbucks behind it used to be the video rental department, which was quite a big thing in Albertsons stores of this era.
