Best Buy has a cool curved glass exterior that dates back to its time as Future Shop. I'm not really sure what Future Shop's stores were like (probably not too interesting since they were bought out by Best Buy in 2001), but the name made them sound super cool to a much younger me, listening to their ads on Canadian radio! It's too bad that Best Buy ended up standardizing to their much less interesting brand. (I also find Best Buy's stores to be extremely boring compared to electronics stores of the past, or even modern-day ones in places like Europe and Asia, but I'm not sure if Future Shop was much better in that regard.)

Fry's Electronics was far more interesting than Best Buy, but Best Buy wins that competition by default now! You're right that Best Buy isn't that interesting, I actually find that Walmart has some more interesting stuff in their electronics department than Best Buy. MicroCenter is still a great electronics store, or at least a computer store, for those who have one in-town. Fortunately, Houston has one even if it is really difficult to get to.
