Is it just me, or is there something slightly unsettling about the yellow/orange mirrored balloon on the left? It looks like some sort of post-apocalyptic satellite dish! Anyway, I just had to get a picture showing how the books and magazines section really is right in the bakery, which is just weird. I wonder if it has always been like this or if things were rearranged at some point (though if the reading center was moved, I would have expected Safeway to replace it with newer display shelving taken out of some other store!). It's also possible that the bakery was smaller originally, with the newer Lifestyle-era displays being used to expand it.
I wouldn't say that the bronze balloon bothers me so much, but it is a bit strange for there to be a balloon like that which doesn't say anything! Maybe it has a one-sided message, but then again, there appears to be a plain purple balloon in the background so maybe they are just plain balloons!
ReplyDeleteStaples has been advertising recently that they now have Party City departments in their stores. I suppose buying party supplies from an office supply store is maybe a bit stranger than buying party supplies from a supermarket! Of course, the combination of a dead retailer, Party City, with a comatose one, Staples, sounds kind of like Desperation 101, lol.
Yeah, I thought Canadian Tire/Party City was weird, but the new Staples/Party City thing takes the cake! Having things like this at Safeway doesn't seem weird to me, though -- when I was growing up, Safeway was pretty much the only place in town to buy balloons (or at least it was where we bought balloons -- I don't think there was any sort of party supply store in town).
