Fresh is debatable

Pretty much every reference I can find to Pak 'n Save from back when they had a significant presence mentions their stores having terrible produce quality, with people claiming what they sold was the rejects from regular Safeways. Whether that was true or not, hopefully the produce has gotten better since Pak 'n Save went down to just having a few stores that I'm assuming get the same products as every other Safeway, even as the store itself has become less and less fresh over the decades! Despite the Lifestyle-era produce displays that were installed at some point, and the relatively new signage on the cases, this is one of the most retro produce departments I've been in recently. It even still has the classic Safeway single-deck produce setup along the right-hand wall, which Albertsons quickly changed to a normal shelf setup in pretty much every store shortly after the merger.
