The mosaics depict a set of buildings in a ... Tudor? or maybe Germanic? style. I'm not really sure what they were aiming for here, and I'm even less sure of the relevance -- Ashland is a fairly typical small town, not a themed town like Leavenworth, where something like this would make more sense. I'm not sure if the door in the middle of the mosaic is original, but if it's not they did a fairly good job of installing it without completely ruining the artwork!
Ashland isn't themed to the extent that Leavenworth is, but Ashland is home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and it is a big deal in that town. I'm guessing this is themed after English architecture of the time (Tudor probably) of Shakespeare due to the festival. Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Shakespeare_Festival
ReplyDeleteOh, that makes sense! I guess my first thought of Tudor style was probably correct.
