I was surprised to see that the oddball in-store Quest Diagnostics location was still here when I visited this store in 2020 (it does appear to have since closed). A while back, someone brought to my attention that these Quest locations were originally supposed to be used by Theranos, and considering Safeway had at one point planned to have 800 in-store Theranos locations, I'm guessing all of the fancy enclosed consultation rooms that Safeway added to pretty much every pharmacy of theirs were built with that in mind. To Safeway's credit, they seem to have been one of the first to realize that Theranos was not able to do what it was claiming, cancelling that contract in 2015 as the first reports were starting to become public. I guess Quest was their backup plan, though they were not rolled out in anywhere near the scale Theranos was planning and seem to have been a flop.
