Fresh from 2002

This store has to be one of the shortest-lived Fred Meyers in their core Northwest market, closing after just 23 years and without having received a single decor swap -- for the most part, it kept its 2002-vintage Upscale decor (yep, that's apparently the official name for what I had been calling "Fred Meyer Script") all the way to the end. It did get the same 2020s non-decor-swap remodel that a lot of QFCs got, though, including some new cases, most noticeably the tall upright cases around the former produce service department. I've never understood why Kroger had that wave of mini-remodels that replaced some of the expensive infrastructure without doing anything to update the look of their stores, and it makes even less sense in a store like this that closed just a few years later.
