Liquor was pretty much the only thing in the grocery department that was on clearance for the store closing, which seems a bit odd since it's often one of the few things not included in closing sales! Interestingly, it appears that there was some sort of checkout kiosk in the liquor department here (at least, I'm pretty sure that's a cash drawer sticking out below the roll-up door), presumably so you could buy liquor from the locked cases on the spot.
Kroger blamed theft issues for this store's closure, which seemed a bit fishy to me considering the demographics of the area (Redmond, and the Eastside as a whole, is fairly wealthy and not the sort of place I would expect to have crime problems -- they tend to offload their poverty and societal issues onto Seattle proper). The liquor setup here, with a fairly small portion of the stock locked up, definitely makes me doubt Kroger's claims, since their stores that are actually in high-theft areas tend to have pretty much the entire liquor section locked up, either in locked cases or in a walled-off part of the store with its own dedicated checkouts. And they tend to have a lot of stuff outside the liquor section locked up too, whereas this store had hardly any locked shelving other than this small section of the liquor department.
