The downsizing and rearrangement of the general merchandise side of the store meant that some department signs were no longer accurate, so Kroger simply removed them and left a blank spot where they once were. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have a "before" picture of this one, and I'm not even really sure what it would have been -- this area seems like it was once part of the "bed and bath" department, but that sign is still in place off to the left. I like how Fred Meyer reused the wall shelving for shoes during the closing sale! This feels like the sort of thing you'd see at Sears, putting things where they obviously don't belong and just making it work.
