The old optical department was all lit up on this visit (maybe it was on previous visits and I just didn't get a picture like this), showing off the weird stepped fixtures stored inside. I'm pretty sure these are from another part of the store (maybe some clothing department), and it seems the optical fixtures were completely stripped out -- rather surprising considering Sears closed their optical departments pretty late into their decline, when I would have expected them to just leave everything behind.

At least towards the end, Sears Optical centers were operated by a 3rd party company, Luxottica I believe, and so Luxottica probably moved the fixtures to another one of their properties (LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, Target Optical, Sunglass Hut, etc.).
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that -- that makes more sense! I also didn't realize one company owned all of those chains...
