This store has more checkouts than I would expect from an American Safeway built around the same time, but a similarly low number were actually in use. Though it doesn't look like they really needed any more for the number of customers that were here at this odd time in the evening! The checkouts themselves look pretty nice, with the metal stripes giving the checkstands a bit more flair than normal, and I like the register lights quite a bit too compared to the rather plain ones I'm used to from the big chains around here. On the outside wall, the slogans remind me of the "It's Just Better" tagline Albertsons/Safeway used around the same time this store was being built!

The 'It's Just Better' slogan seemed to live on longer at Randall's than maybe it did elsewhere under the Safeway umbrella. I think that's because Connie Yates recorded a lot of in-store and radio jingles with that slogan. Connie Yates was a Tom Thumb publicist who kind of became the voice of Tom Thumb and Randall's until she retired a few years ago. Of course, I think some Lifestyle-era banners and such hung around until around 2020 around here too!
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I remember it being pretty short-lived around here.
