I think I took this picture mainly to show the construction of the backlit signs, which is a bit cheap -- there's just a standard fluorescent tube back there, fully visible since the sign is just a flat piece of metal without anything on the sides to conceal the light fixture. I'm guessing the heat from the light is what gradually caused the insides of the letters to stop adhering to the translucent plastic layer. Off in the background is another one of those giant air ducts taking up the corner of the store!
