And as cool as everything we've seen so far is, there's one last thing here that really made it clear that I had to visit this place. The 2021 remodel included a set of really cool, brand new (but still somewhat 70s-looking), tile murals spread between the existing and "new" parts of the store. (The original store ended at the right side of the alcove, at the same spot the canopy ends.) These first two appear to be very abstract depictions of the ocean and water sports, fitting for this store's near-oceanfront location.

Nice! I love a good supermarket tile mural! Interestingly, Publix was actually inspired to start putting tile murals on their stores after their founder visited Southern California and saw Safeway stores in the area doing just that. I have no idea if any of the original SoCal Safeway tile murals live on anywhere, but neat to see Safeway re-embrace that tradition with this Vons!
