Santa Fe's deluxe department signs were reserved for the service departments, leaving the produce department looking a bit flat with a pair of signs that are a bit reminiscent of Kroger Block Script. At least they put nice flooring in this section, which is quite noticeable thanks to all of the empty space around the hodgepodge of produce cases from different eras and decors. The deflated balloons in the foreground seem all too appropriate for this store; it's also a little weird to see them mixing LA Dodgers and SF Giants balloons in this LA-area store!

It is very strange to see Dodgers and Giants balloons mixed in like that given those two team's historical rivalry which went back to when both teams were in New York and now in California. Given that Santa Maria is a bit north of the LA area, perhaps there are both Giants and Dodgers fans there. It is telling that California's two American League West teams are not represented at all! I doubt the Angels and A's have very many fans outside their home areas, and the A's don't even have a home area right now! It is pretty sad that the Astros were forced into that terrible division, but it is not like I really follow baseball anymore anyway...in part because of baseball forcing the Astros to move into the AL West!
ReplyDeleteThe floor is indeed very colorful here. It is a bit like the Kroger Script/Fresh Fare era floors, though this is more colorful than that. The colorfulness of the floor distracts from the poor condition of the ceiling tiles here!
The colorfulness of the floor distracts from the poor condition of the floor too! I hope it isn't as dirty as it looks in these pictures -- it's probably just that textured vinyl some stores used for produce departments in this era -- but it looks bad.
