One last surprise on the way out the door -- I was quite surprised to find that this store still had an open dry cleaners in the front corner! I knew Albertsons put these in quite a few stores in the late 90s/early 00s, but I had never seen one in person. Of course, it doesn't look very open here -- if it wasn't for the clothes still hanging on the conveyor, I would have assumed it was just sitting here vacant, since there's no trace of a register, nothing to say when it would be open, and not much in the way of signage. Even the "closed" sign is just taken from the checkout lanes! I'm pretty sure it is closed now -- there's no trace of it on Google Maps, and while DFS Cleaners (which apparently was once a big chain of grocery-store dry cleaners) does still have an operational website, it's dated 2018 and their store locator is broken. I have to wonder if there are any grocery stores left with in-store dry cleaners... it seems like dry cleaning just isn't much of a thing any longer (though maybe I just think that because I refuse to wear fancy clothing).

Yeah, dry cleaning is definitely still a thing, but no clue about any still located inside other retailers.
ReplyDeleteThere are definitely dry cleaners still around, no denying that... but just in the time I've lived in Seattle, I've seen tons of them close down (and it's not like anyone's opening new ones to replace them). I don't know what the reason is, but people definitely aren't getting their clothes dry cleaned all that much any longer! I remember when I was a kid, my parents would go to the dry cleaners a few times a year to get special clothes (I don't remember what) cleaned, but they haven't done that in probably over a decade now (and there used to be 3 or 4 in town... now there's just one and it seems to be barely hanging on).
