The Mervyn's wing no longer has a blank wall at the T&T end, but the Gottschalk's end is still just a wall. But at least there's a big mural here now, so it's not quite so dead. Gottschalks and Mervyn's went bust within a few months of one another in 2009, which must have seemed like the death knell for this mall at the time... but here we are, 16 years later, and Factoria is looking better than ever. Perhaps there's a lesson here for the shopping centers that are losing multiple major stores in 2025's wave of retail bankruptcies (the most recent of which, Rite Aid 2.0, is set to affect this mall too).
