The back corner of the store is home to the dairy department, with a sign bragging that the products on offer are "fresh, delivered daily". Maybe that's true in California, but it's definitely not true in our local Safeways, which I have caught selling expired milk (without even sticking on the 50% off labels) more than a few times. While the retrofit doors kind of disguise it, this store doesn't have a milk walk-in box, which isn't surprising considering its age and size.
When I was back home for a visit once, I saw multiple half-gallons dated August 18, and even worse, July 30 or 31, still for sale on August 20. Yuck.
